Dr. Jing Zhang, Neuroscientist
Jing Zhang is a leading sleep researcher and expert on the science of sleep and memory, with over 7 years of research experience investigating the neural mechanisms of sleep and memory. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where she investigates the neural mechanisms of memory formation during sleep. She has authored 12+ publications in top journals including Nature Neuroscience, elucidating the complex relationships between sleep stages, memory consolidation, and neurological disorders. Jing employs her expertise in cognitive neuroscience and skills in neuroimaging techniques like EEG and fMRI to collect and analyze data on sleep and memory formation. She has presented her research findings at international conferences. Before starting her PhD, Jing gained additional research experience as an undergraduate at Furman University and worked for 2 years at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Passionate about making sleep research accessible, Jing contributes her expertise to media and conferences, helping people understand how to optimize sleep for cognitive health. She earned her BSc in Psychology with a minor in Gender Studies from Furman University in 2016 and expects to complete her PhD at UC Irvine in 2024. Jing has published 12+ peer-reviewed articles in premier journals such as Nature Neuroscience and Sleep. She presented research on menstrual cycle-related changes in sleep and emotional memory consolidation at the SLEEP annual meeting in 2022. Jing also lectured undergraduate students on sleep changes with aging.
